What if?

What if?  These two words pretty much sum up what the Missed Connections section on Craigs list is all about.  Missed Connections Love, Lost & Found…do you know this book?  I bought it for an extra little valentine for my daughter last year and today while riding the 6 train I saw Sophie Blackall’s work on the subway poster she created for the MTA.  I sort of love the whole idea of Missed Connections.  The idea that there’s someone out there that shared a glance, a few words, an umbrella and they can’t stop thinking about this person…so they write a post on Craig’s List New York City Missed Connections in hopes that they see it.   Sophie Blackall’s illustrations about such events in her “Missed Connections” book are so captivating and charming.  I just watched the the Etsy video and how the subway poster came about with the MTA…watch it, if you love NY, you’ll love this interview.  Reading this little book  gives you a really good feeling.  It makes you want to be extra nice to someone who may need it.  Sophie Blackall Missed Connections Poster for the MTA IMG_9964 IMG_9965

So cool Annie. I must pick up this book. Its pretty insane when you realize and think about how we are all connected. We truly are one, and sometimes you may do something for someone and not think it means anything, but that small thing you did could make that person’s day or change something for them. Did you ever lock eyes with someone (a stranger) and make a connection, like you just know that you know them, but really you really don’t know them in this lifetime? Its like your soul knows their soul. I know I may sound all Cali and out there, but I really believe in past lives and reincarnation and all that spiritual stuff.

Michael Newton has written some amazing books about past lives. Have you ever read one of his books? He is a certified Master Hypnotherapist, and has written some amazing books based on his clients. Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls are pretty amazing and really make you think.

I always try and say hi or make eye contact with people I see about during the day. I think its important for us to open our eyes and hearts to those in our community or out and about. Instead of always looking down at our phones or the ground when walking, we should look ahead and give a friendly hello or smile to a person passing by. Most of the time you will get a smile or hello back and get a kick in your step!

Have a wonderful Friday girl and thanks for the book recommendation. xoxo, Jackie

Will definitely check into this! The MTA holds special meaning to my family because of the song by the Kingston Trio. Am currently looking for artwork for my son’s room and this poster could be perfect (and maybe even the book too). Thanks so much for the rec! I love following your pins – you are one of my favorites!

I love this! I really didn’t even know that Craigslist had a missed connections section. I was just checking our your link – and it made me say “awwwweee.” Really touching how many connections are made (or we think) are made throughout the day. I sure hope some of these missed connections actually connect.

Thanks for the info on the book too! Have a great weekend Annie : ) xo Ashlyn

I bought this book about six months ago. It’s ADORABLE! I wish she’d come out with a follow up book of those who did “connect” through “missed connections”.

This warms my heart Annie……I’ll never think of “what if” the same way. Lessons to be learned….thank you so much! Xox Elizabeth

This sounds so cool. I am going to Amazon as we speak. I love reading stuff like this. And, well, you know I LOVE NY! Thanks for the tip!

While on a Metra ride into the Loop or awaiting at an airport, it’s easy to wonder what everyone’s story is! The Missed Connection brings new wonder!
I liked Jackie’s comment about opening our eyes and hearts to people we pass by! Annie thanks for opening our eyes on this subject!

Sophie Blackall’s illustrations are my kind of art… Folk Art!

You never know how much a kind word or act could literally change someone’s life or day. I so believe this. I can’t wait to get this book:)

I love the idea of missed connections too, Annie. I’ll have to get a couple of these books, one for me, one for a friend. There have been so many times where I wish I would have said something to someone, a nice person, or someone who looks like they could use a little cheer, but I’m often too shy to say anything. Then I kick myself for being so shy and not speaking up!
