The other day I was walking along Fifth Avenue and noticed the Banana Republic store at 16th & 5th. Inside was a large open space with two floors, gorgeous architectural details, warm wood and black and white marble floors…I could not help but wonder about the original occupant of this beautiful space. What was it before it was a Banana Republic? The store clerks did not mind one bit that I was taking photographs and as I left actually thanked me for coming in. No, thank you!

Yes, I have been in that store. If you find out what was in there, let us know! Such great architecture and details.
I bet it was a bank.
Your images are great. You should sell your photos.

Not to sound cliche, but OMG! The wood, the iron and those gorgeous floors! I wonder what it was originally??? So beautiful.
I think you need to do a photo book….I would definitely buy it! Make that happen ok?
P.S. those images printed and framed would make an awesome grouping.
Happy Birthday, Brent! Please let us know who occupied this classic building, when you find out! Lovely photo’s!
Annie, I wish you had a link where we can purchase your photos. Truly. I would love to have some in my office….the only problem would be to decide which ones! YOU are so very talented. xo E.
How about the cornices???? You are so great.
Ahhh..the history of NYC. It’s the best. Beautiful images you captured Annie!
There are a few stores like this in DC. This is the way shopping should always be!
Great photos as always Annie. I do wonder about some of these old buildings/houses that have turned into shops or offices. What did it look like when it was a house? Did they have kids that ran down those stairs each morning? Just think about all the memories and footprints those stairs hold. It’s pretty neat when you really think about it!
